DWEEK 2012

I love DIXIE and I love DWEEK!!! The week was full of fun activities and great things to do every night. Monday was our kickoff, we decided to be different this year and have an art contest. The theme for this years Dweek was "Dixie spirit you can feel it, you can hear it" Each club, student, and staff had the opportunity to draw what the Dixie spirit meant to them. We have a huge fountain in the middle of campus and a cement area around it, that is where the kickoff was held. It was a lot of fun and here are some of my favorites:

Tuesday was the annual D Queen pageant, we had 17 contestants and it was a very competitive night. Chancen and Abby were the emcees and were so funny! This was the only event all week that we had to charge for because of the venue so our student turnout wasn't so good which was too bad because there were some awesome talents! In the end Jacee Whatcott was named the D Queen for 2012.

The royalty and more

Every Dweek we as a student body we break a record, last year was the biggest arm wrestle this year was....the biggest THUMB wrestle! It was legit and so much fun, plus this years shirts was so awesome! We got in three lines and wrestled our thumbs for five minutes-afterwards my thumbs were so sore!

Friday was the best day of all! DWeek includes the Great Race and Carnival. The Great race has been around since Dixie State started-it stopped for a few years but then made a come back. It's a ten man team relay race with your not so typical events. It begins and ends with a run and has a base run, roller blades, mountain biking, swimming, a mud pit, and a slip 'n slide.  Being on a team is obviously a volunteer thing and this year I really wanted to be a part of a team. So after an internal battle I joined the student government team! We didn't win but we still had an awesome time! My event was the mad dash to the end...literally! In the end the Xclub took the victory! I was satisfied with that, the alumni or "forever Rebels" have won it the last two years and needed to be dethroned so way to go Xclub!

My team! We were team REDefine
After the great race we headed to the carnival, usually it is outside but because the weather was bad we had to move it inside. It was so fun all the clubs put together a booth and it was packed the whole time. I really just had such a great time with my sister! It's not very often that we get a sister date so I love every minute of the one's we do get! We didn't take many pictures because it was so busy and I had to take roll of all the booths but just know that we had an awesome time together! They had two huge blow up obstacle course things that we raced through, they also had an indoor blow up dodge ball thing. We sat outside that thing and laughed at the kids for almost half an hour. We made up scenarios and held on to the balls so that kids couldn't take them. We got food, tats and ice cream. Did I mentioned I loved it?

Xclub brought the Nintendo game 'Duck Hunt' Holly loved it!

You eyein' my popcorn??

Saturday we got up early and whitewashed the D on the hillside so bold. It really is my favorite thing of the year. Students have been whitewashing the D for 98 years and counting. If you have never been up to the D you really should go and look out at the valley it is beautiful!

IT WAS FREEZING!!!

It was Holly's first time..she really enjoyed it!

After whitewashing and eating an amazing breakfast we went home took a nap then went to work. I drove to Kanab, it rained all the way and even snowed in some parts. It was definitely an interesting drive and it was fun to play in the snow for a while!

After work Hol and I got dolled up and went to the dance. Normally dances are not my scene but being a member of student government makes it my scene. The room was decorated great, the refreshments were awesome and the DJ was the best I've ever seen!

After the dance we came home, watched law and order then called it a night! Dweek was the bomb.com and if it wasn't so stressful I'd want it to happen every week! I love my dear Dixie school am grateful to all the people who put Dweek together and made it run smoothly!

Are we there YET????

I wish I was referring to a road trip...but of course I am referring to school. The countdown began long ago and I cannot wait for May 4th to come and go. The last week was spent studying and working...If  I wasn't working then chances are I was either at the library or at Aubs house. It was torture!! I have so many projects and miscellaneous things to do that I have sticky notes and to do lists all over my planner! Only three more weeks of the sticky notes then the only thing I have to worry about is not getting enough sun!

As a college student you have to find a way to balance everything-social life, work life, and obviously school life. Sometimes I manage pretty well other times I don't. This week was alright, Monday I only studied till 7 then hung out with roommates. Tuesday I did student Gov. things-it was one of those epic meetings. Being a leader has it's perks but at the same time you make your best judgement about situations and hope it was the right thing to do. We as an ICC have just had a couple things to handle and we did what we knew was the best thing to do. Wednesday and Thursday I worked and had a grand ole time-we talked about where you would draw the line when dating someone. Like if they had one arm, or were paralyzed, or had weird habits. Let me tell ya I have never laughed so hard at work. Some of the things that my fellow employees came up with were hilarious!! Thursday night after work and studying Holly, Randi, Aub and I decided to go see the Hunger Games! It was so GOOD! I cried, laughed and was just amazed. I have never read the books but I really want to.

Friday we did our campus to community- we laid sod around our new Holland building. There was so much area to cover and the student body delivered. We laid everything in an hour and a half. It was just a great event and I am so grateful that all the students came out and helped. I don't know if you have ever laid sod or not but each roll is pretty heavy and I was a little sore the next day.

BEFORE

AFTER
Friday after work we had girls night-we made cookies and watched made of honor. Saturday I worked-drove to Kanab nothing too exciting. Today was a very spiritual and uplifting day, Easter always is.  I learned how to better become closer to my Savior. I would not be here without him and I wouldn't make it back to my Heavenly Father without him

This next week is one of my most favorite weeks-DWEEK! There is something going on everyday and all but one of the events is free! So all you Dixie State College students be sure to get out and feel that Dixie Spirit!!

Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows everywhere!

I love this post title because it perfectly describes this week. The majority of last week was spent in the sunshine-I already have a semi-tan right arm, I wore shorts twice, and ran the A/C almost 24/7 in my apartment! Monday I worked so nothing really happened. Tuesday however was much different than those of the past. In my last post, I wrote about our Dixie Campus being full of construction. Our dear President Nadauld is working so hard at transforming our campus and helping us progress to university status. If you were to walk around campus you'd find many new additions and expansions underway. On Tuesday I went to the groundbreaking of the first of the many of these:

President Nadauld

Members of the Peter Neilson family got to turn over the first dirt,
This first one is named The Peter Neilson Memory Garden, they are just places on campus that students can study or relax.  It was my first groundbreaking ceremony and it was pretty neat! Tuesday night during my 5pm leadership class I had to do a presentation on a great leader from history. I choose Winston Churchill and learned so much about this man. I was more nervous than I should have been but it worked out and now I am done and can focus on my other projects that are do in the next couple of weeks.

I don't know about all of you but I love donating blood! It's the easiest way for me to save a life or two-plus I have O+ blood which is almost universal so lots of people will accept it in their blood stream. It's kind of a pain the first five hours afterward but by the sixth hour I'm good! Wednesday night my sister and I went visiting teaching. We are not partners but neither of our partners were available so we decided to go together! Visiting Teaching enriches my life and I seriously love going every month, if I could go every week I would! The March message was all about being Daughters in his Kingdom it was really good! I also just love my sister so very much and love preaching the gospel with her!!

Thursday and Friday I worked, studied and slept! That seriously is how my life is now since the semester is rapidly coming to an end. I did however have the whole weekend off which is not normal for me at all, it was so weird. Honestly there was not a better weekend to have off then the weekend of conference! I love General Conference it is the best weekend of the year and thankfully it happens twice a year. My weekend was filled with studying, inspiration, cleaning, more inspiration and just some good bonding time with my friends and roommates. Friday I went to the Temple with Case face, it was super awesome! That night I had a date night with myself I went to Jimmy Johns and orange peel my two favorites. Case knew I was alone so she came over made me change out of my pj's and go on an adventure with her. We both wanted treats so we went to the sweet tooth fairy bakery! It was so delicious and has been way too long since I've been there.

Saturday we watched conference, I studied during the break and then we watched the second half of conference. My sister worked at 4, Tiana was at a baptism and Randi was up north so I had the house to myself again. I took a nap until Tiana got home then we went to eat. After dinner we deep cleaned our house and I did laundry. We pulled our beds out to the front room and watched Toy Story 2. This morning was no different-we watched conference, napped during the break, ate dinner and now doing homework for the rest of our Sunday. It did rain today which proves that "when the saints meet the heavens weep"  it rains every conference. This weekend was so great I feel inspired, changed, motivated and invincible.

I love this gospel and don't know where i'd be without it. I love my savior and am thankful for his atonement that makes it so I can repent and make it back to him. I am so very blessed to be part of an eternal family who will be together forever. I am grateful to have to the power of prayer, I know it's true! I know God hears our prayers and answers them when it's right for us. If you trust in him he will direct thy paths. I know Thomas S Monson is the true prophet on the Earth today. I know the book of Mormon is true and needs to be read everyday! I am a daughter of a king, child of God and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints!!
