California Love

I mentioned recently that last month Aubrey and I took a planned/spontaneous trip to California!! It was the best four days that a girl could have! How can a trip be planned but yet spontaneous? Well here's the scoop: It was supposed to be Aubrey, Kari and I that went. Kari is from the beautiful California and we have been saying for a year that we need to go home in her suitcase..or back seat. So we did it! We set a date and made the plans. The week of Kari got very sick and had a lot of her plate so she decided not to go. Aub and I had a dilemma and a decision to make. To go or not to go? We pondered for two days and just decided to go. We booked hotels and sadly left Kari behind! We left Wednesday and never looked back! We stopped in Vegas to shop at the V.S. and to eat some delicious Canes (it was my first time without Randi Stratton-it was weird) then continued on! We are not sure if it was because of the darkness or what but the drive took literally FOREVER!!! We finally arrived to our hotel around 1 am...now two things you should know about me-I am a horrible hotel picker, and I am sort of paranoid in unfamiliar areas. With that, we pulled into our hotel which was sketch-tastic and like 2 miles from the Mexican border. It was super cheap and we know why! To our surprise it was a very nice hotel and had very comfy beds. We wanted somewhere close to Sea World and it was the winner. Thursday we slept in a little then hit the road for Sea World. We were so excited we could hardly contain it! We even might have missed a toll or two because we were so distracted...its not our fault though. The GPS told us to stay in the lane and we did, can I just say that by the end of the trip we were pro at driving in California? We knew how to almost get back to our hotel without the GPS and knew which freeways to take! Pro status I tell ya. Anyway, we arrived to Sea World with plenty of time to park and buy our tickets. We got into the park and were in la-la land, there was so much to see and do. We mapped out our attack and made sure that we hit all the shows we wanted to see. In the end we were exhausted and sun burned. We decided that we would try to eat at places we never have before. So after sea world we found a cute malt shop/diner and ate there...it was good but we were starving so we really didn't care. We then went back to our Mexican border hotel and took a nap then went hot tubing.

Hitting the road!!!!

the Blue dot is us...the red line is the border..haha

Friday morning we got up and headed to the beach!!! We love the beach and could have spent all four days there. We made a quick stop at a Walmart to get some supplies then continued to the beach. Once we found the correct streets that took us there and got help from a beach bum to pay for our all day parking we were soaking up the sun. We laid out for a while then went shopping and drank some jamba juice. Friday night we had the brilliant idea to go to an Anaheim Angels baseball game. However were were not brilliant in the fact that we didn't buy our tickets before hand. We arrived to a packed parking lot and line of traffic-I started getting worried! We got to the parking lot and realized that it was a cash only thing to pay for parking. Our second mistake of the trip neither of us had any cash!! So we hurried to the ATM got cash, parked, then went to the gates. We got to the ticket office and some random man offered us two free tickets-no strings, no joke, just handed us two tickets. They were not in the same section but at least we were in. It was awesome- our first MLB game was a free one! We hurried inside found a merchandise store bought some team gear then headed to our seats. It was such a great game and we loved every minute of it!!! The next best part was that it was an excellent game! We won and they did fireworks! So great! Since then we have had the desire to watch another live game but have not been able to.

Us reading Scriptures together! I loved this!
Saturday we did another beach day, we headed back to Huntington Beach and got some more of that sunshine and took a nap. We wanted to ride bikes later but it was far too hot and there were not any bikes when we got to the shop to rent them. So we just ate famous pazookies instead, they are giant cookies with ice cream on top-so good!! After that we went back to the hotel where we showered and napped. For that nights adventures we just walked around Anaheim and ate at the Outback Steakhouse! We then just walked more and just hung out, we were both super tired and just wanted a stress free plan free night.

We woke up early Sunday morning and said our farewell to the beautiful California and headed back to Utah.We made it in time for my institute graduation which was the goal, the drive there was definitely much shorter than the drive back! I really really did love our vacation, we did so much and tried so many new places to eat, many diners and fast food things but it worked for us. Aubrey was the best road trip partner because we are both so alike and are easy to please. We made plans and made times that we would leave in the morning and it was not a problem for either of us. We would listen to the same 5 songs a billion times and were not even sick of them! I just had the best time with her and can't wait for our next trip!
